Crispy Hot Honey Onion Rings
Ingredients
- 2-3 large white or yellow onions
- 1 egg
- 3 cups milk
- 1/4 cup hot sauce
- 2 tsp paprika
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp black pepper
- Salt to taste
- 8 oz butter
- 1-2 tsp cayenne
- 12 oz honey
- Squeeze of lemon
- Salt and MSG to taste
- 3 cups flour
- 2 tsp paprika
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp black pepper
- Salt to taste
- 3-4 cups panko
Instructions
- Slice the onion from top to bottom and peel carefully.
- Remove the thin membrane and slice into half-inch rings.
- In a bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, hot sauce, paprika, chili powder, black pepper, and salt.
- Soak the onion rings in the egg mixture.
- In a separate pan, melt the butter and add cayenne, salt, and MSG.
- Remove from heat and stir in honey and lemon juice.
- Prepare a dry mix of flour, paprika, chili powder, black pepper, and salt.
- Coat the soaked onion rings in the dry mix, then dip back into the milk mixture, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs.
- Fry the onion rings in hot oil at 350°F until crispy.
- Remove from oil, sprinkle with flaky salt, and drizzle with hot honey.
